Welcome to
Anderson Western Colorado Camps
Anderson Western Colorado Camps is an original high-country adventure camp for boys and girls 7 - 17 ready for true Rocky Mountain adventure. Established in 1962, Anderson Western Colorado Camps offers adventure camps focused on white water rafting, horseback riding, mountain climbing, backpacking, camping, and more all in the majestic Colorado high country.
White River National Forest Land & The Colorado River
Surrounded by more than 5 million acres of the White River National Forest, our summer camp is nestled at the confluence of the Colorado River and Sweetwater Creek just 50 miles west of Vail, Colorado. This location is superb for an exciting outdoor adventure camp. With our summer camp on the Colorado River we are able to provide daily rafting trips. Plus, the White River National Forest provides a majestic setting for many fun-filled days of horseback riding, mountain climbing, and backpacking. In fact, our summer camp has access to most of the scenic wonders and adventures available throughout Western Colorado and Utah.
2010 Summer Camp Programs
Colorado River Ranch (Boys) & Hill Top Ranch (Girls)
Our Colorado adventure camp programs have non-stop activities. Campers choose morning and afternoon activities including horseback riding, white water river rafting, playaking, mountain biking, rappelling, trap shooting, fishing, archery, climbing wall, ropes course, and hiking.
The summer camp experience kicks into high gear. Each camper goes on a number of overnight and all-day trips. The first trip each session is a three-day cabin camp-out. This trip is not co-ed. Another trip is a 4 or 5-day extended trip. Each camper makes an individual choice according to his or her interests. The extended trip choices include caving, mountain climbing, horseback riding, and white water rafting.
New! Add a Horse Emphasis to your summer camp experience.
This summer, the wrangling staff at Anderson Camps is offering a horse emphasis program for campers. Daily horseback rides, all-day horseback rides, and the extended horseback riding trip will still be available to all campers; however, horse emphasis campers will be guaranteed spots on these rides and will spend other time working with the horses (care of the horses, corralling and catching horses, bareback riding, attending rodeo events, saddling and tacking for rides, and equipment care and maintenance).
Anderson High Adventures provides a more challenging experience to build self-confidence and leadership skills. This small co-ed program accepts 12 applicants. Eighty percent of the session time is spent on a wide variety of out-of-camp trips, including whitewater rafting in Utah and Colorado, backpacking in the Flattops, rock climbing, and mountain climbing several of Colorado's 14,000-foot peaks.
